Get Ready for Choral Week in Saskatchewan!
February 8 – 14, 2014 has officially been designated Choral Week in Saskatchewan and a wealth of activities have been arranged to celebrate, advocate, and educate choirs and choral singing in Saskatchewan:
1) Celebrate – Your choir has come a long way, why not take a moment to reflect on where you’ve come from and celebrate where you’re going? Let the province know who you are and why you do what you do! Tell (or sing!) us your story and let the rest of Saskatchewan know who you are and why singing in choir is important to you! From now until February 7 SCF will collect choirs’ photos, videos, biographies and post them to the Choral Week webpage.
2) Advocate – Share some choral love with a choralgram in the Sing For Your Community contest! From now until February 7, share a video of your choir singing in your community and you could win up to $300 of new music for your choir! Videos receive points for different criteria - collect the most points and your choir wins!
3) Educate – This year marks the Choral Federation’s 35th Anniversary and we are commemorating it by launching ChorFest Saskatchewan, a new non-competitive provincial choral festival for all ages and genres of group singing. The festival is non-competitive, focusing on choral growth and development. Choirs from across Saskatchewan will perform and workshop their own music with some of Canada’s most accomplished choral, vocal jazz and barbershop harmony clinicians!
ChorFest also includes:
Treble Youth Choir Project (Saturday, Feb 8 – Knox Met United Church, Regina) - Join leading treble youth conductor, Dr. Mark Sirett, as he works with Saskatchewan youth in the Treble Youth Choir Project on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Choirs will perfect a selection of mass choir pieces that will be performed along with their own choral favourites at a public concert at Knox Metropolitan United Church at 7:30pm that evening!
Workshop With musica intima (Sunday, Feb 9 – Knox Met United Church, Regina) - Don’t miss your chance to workshop with “the most exciting small choir in the land,” Vancouver’s musica intima, is coming to ChorFest and is offering an SATB workshop for individual high school and adult singers! Register now – 200 participants maximum!
Member Reception (Saturday, Feb 8 evening – Knox Met United Church, Regina) - Join colleagues, ChorFest clinicians and guest performers the Saturday evening immediately following the Treble Youth Choir Project concert to celebrate Saskatchewan’s rich choral heritage and bright choral future. Tell some of Saskatchewan’s top cultural decision-makers that choral singing is a key component of a healthy and vibrant community. Open to SCF members and special guests.
Noon Hour Concerts (Feb 10 – 12, 12:00PM – 1:00PM – Knox Met United Church, Regina) - Join us for some of the best choral music happening in Regina during ChorFest. Concerts are open to the public and everyone is welcome!
